A line in the sand
is a cry for a fight,
it demands each man choose,
requires someone to win
and someone to lose,
whether cooperation
was yet within sight.
A gauntlet thrown down
shows a lust for a brawl,
who can then apologize
once the challenge is made
and the foes have locked eyes,
only one can walk home
while the other must crawl.
Must the many take cues
from the fiery few,
cannot level heads,
though opposed, stop
division before it spreads,
settling conflicts
by thoughtful review?
Very thoughtful commentary in these troubling times.
