There is nothing
like anticipation.
The way it crawls
down your back
and your throat,
reminding you
that you have never
survived
any difficult situation
in your life,
making sure
that you remember
the dire nature
of the challenge
before you,
the lives that hang
in the balance,
affected alone
by the success
or failure
of your company meeting,
your school presentation,
your first date,
or your witty small talk.
Thank goodness
anticipation is there
to look out for us.
I am not sure
what I would do
without it…
