Baby Boy

Can I say “I love you” enough times
that you’ll remember when I’m gone
the pride I felt
when I first knelt
and held you in my arms?

Can I kiss your cheeks so often
that you’ll always feel my love,
the tears I wept
when you first slept
with our own roof above?

I love you so much, baby boy,
if nothing, let this poem be
a never ending gift to you
from your old man who somehow grew
to love a child so tenderly.

Hi, my name is Jacob Anton (ANN-tin) Davis. I am a husband, father, attorney, and writer. I have written poetry and fiction as a hobby for the past 20 years, but I launched J. Anton Poetry in 2019 to share my writing publicly. The poems of mine on this site largely describe my thoughts about the deeper connections and meaning in our everyday lives.
