Expect Difficulty

Throughout our lives,
we inevitably
pass through
many trying and difficult
seasons.

One aspect
of these difficulties
that can magnify
our suffering
is our subconscious belief
that trials and challenges
should not be expected,
but only appear
when something is broken
in our lives,
or when we have made
some terrible decision
to cause them,
when in truth,
every day has troubles
of its own,
and many are outside
of our control.

When we think
we are sick
and must be cured
of our current affliction
in order to
be whole again,
we forget
the fact that
even in our
strongest moments,
even when we feel
we are at our best,
suffering may still come,
and not as punishment,
but simply to serve as
yet another brush stroke
in the incredible painting
that is our life.

Were we to see
our suffering
and struggles
as simply
an opportunity
to be reminded
of the life
within us,
even if experienced
through deep mourning,
stress, or pain,
we might find
more peace
in our most difficult
moments.

  1. Wow so true about the suffering that is regardless of our circumstances. I can’t wait to see the whole painting one day 🙂
