I thought
that freedom lie
on the edge of the world,
beyond the distractions
and expectations
of everyday life,
and indeed it does,
but not only there.
I have found freedom
even in my home,
where my responsibilities
are greatest
and where I cannot hide
behind affected expressions
of tranquility and sublimity;
I have learned
that freedom springs forth
not from the soil
of uncharted lands,
but from the fertile loam
of curiosity,
self-expression,
and simplicity.
Freedom,
in its deepest sense,
is mine,
and I will take it
with me
wherever I go.
Love this. I find that I, too, am discovering new and unexpected freedom in this season of life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, as always!
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Megan! And yes; it is definitely an odd season, but it does seem like we are all learning a lot right now that we couldn’t learn any other way. Hope you all (including both of you and Josh’s +1’s — hospital and home) are doing well!
Very insightful.
Thanks, Laurie!
What a great thought! And so true. Keep writing!
Thanks, Dad! I’m glad you liked it, and I will!
