I still remember

I still remember
the din of shoppers
lolling me to sleep
against your shoulder,
the smell of candles,
donuts, and perfume
momentarily piquing my senses
as we passed by
different shops and stands,
my inner world completely calm
as the outer world passed by me
like some sort of pleasant dream,
close enough to experience
but with no power to harm me
or even engage with me;
I was free in your arms, truly resting,
the peace of my mind, heart, and body attesting
that you were strong,
that you were safe,
that you were good.

Author: J. Anton Davis

Hi, my name is Jacob Anton (ANN-tin) Davis. I am a husband, father, attorney, and writer. I have written poetry and fiction as a hobby for the past 20 years, but I launched J. Anton Poetry in 2019 to share my writing publicly. The poems of mine on this site largely describe my thoughts about the deeper connections and meaning in our everyday lives.
