I Will Not Fight

How often
are we pulled
into fights,
especially
over scarce resources,
only because another
starts to claw
and grab
for whatever
that thing is?
We can forget,
in those moments,
that often
it is not the greedy
or the glutenous
who get
what they want.
Even if they appear
to get something,
they often forfeit
much more
in the process,
making the acquisition
a Pyrrhic victory
at best.
When we wait,
working hard,
but trusting
that God
will bring us
to the correct place
at the correct time,
that is when
we gain all,
yet forfeit nothing.

Author: J. Anton Davis

Hi, my name is Jacob Anton (ANN-tin) Davis. I am a husband, father, attorney, and writer. I have written poetry and fiction as a hobby for the past 20 years, but I launched J. Anton Poetry in 2019 to share my writing publicly. The poems of mine on this site largely describe my thoughts about the deeper connections and meaning in our everyday lives.
