Lost Poems

How many poems
have I lost,
waiting so long
to pursue my writing
in earnest?

How many experiences
once electrified my mind
with fantastic imagery
and emotion,
only to be discarded
and forgotten,
likely replaced by
unimportant street names
or trivial news stories?

I believe
there are many more
incredible experiences
to come in my life,
some more brilliantly colored
than those I have lost,
but reflecting on these
lost poems
is a reminder to me,
to all of us,
to seize every opportunity
that we can in this life
to express ourselves,
openly and honestly,
to write the poem,
to paint the picture,
to start the business,
to run the race,
preferably while
the desire to do so
is still wild and audacious,
bold and unafraid.

Author: J. Anton Davis

Hi, my name is Jacob Anton (ANN-tin) Davis. I am a husband, father, attorney, and writer. I have written poetry and fiction as a hobby for the past 20 years, but I launched J. Anton Poetry in 2019 to share my writing publicly. The poems of mine on this site largely describe my thoughts about the deeper connections and meaning in our everyday lives.
