The most enviable person
may be the one
who lives a life
that most closely
resembles
who they truly are;
the one who,
for better or worse,
is known
by others,
and therefore
never has to pretend
that they are
someone else.
There is freedom
in not having to hide,
in owning
who you are,
even if that means
inevitable rejection,
which it most certainly does.
To know
and live out
who you are
is worth a lifetime
of rejection,
as loneliness
is far more desirable
than being a stranger
to one’s self.
So go,
express yourself
as naturally,
as unapologetically,
and as effortlessly
as humanly possible,
and accept with grace
the reactions of those
who have only ever known
your pretender.
