The weightiest things

I wanted to write
of the weightiest things…
I couldn’t even type a word.
As wisdom rarely comes
in Springs,
those truths are yet
to me conferred.

Some lessons come
through pain alone,
a heavy price
that all must pay,
I won’t pretend
those truths I own
and speak
from my naiveté.

One day I may
be fit to teach
the lessons
born of suffering,
until that time
I shall not preach
of any bell
I’ve yet to ring.

Author: J. Anton Davis

Hi, my name is Jacob Anton (ANN-tin) Davis. I am a husband, father, attorney, and writer. I have written poetry and fiction as a hobby for the past 20 years, but I launched J. Anton Poetry in 2019 to share my writing publicly. The poems of mine on this site largely describe my thoughts about the deeper connections and meaning in our everyday lives.
