Light Among Death

There is light
among death
which shines brighter
than any darkness
that mourning brings.

Lives remembered,
journeys celebrated,
souls liberated
from an imperfect world,
rising to new heights
of peace, joy,
and understanding.

Those left behind
are now branded
with painful realities
which leave marks
of their loved ones
on their souls;
marks that will become
badges of pride
when their wounds
have sealed shut,
finally protected
from the fiery winds
of memory and emotion.

One day,
all that will remain
is joy,
born from the deep bonds
of friendship and love
that were forged
smile by smile
and hug by hug;
until that day comes,
those who suffer
must trod the path
of Remembering,
a trail which torments
its travelers
in proportion
to the beauty
there found.

Hi, my name is Jacob Anton (ANN-tin) Davis. I am a husband, father, attorney, and writer. I have written poetry and fiction as a hobby for the past 20 years, but I launched J. 1. Thanks for writing this J. Anton. It’s a great thing for me to focus on right now especially (as you might have guessed). Love you man. Keep bringing the world your art.

    1. Love you too, brother. Glad you enjoyed it and it helped you think through all that you are going through right now.
